Welcome to the Museum of Old and New Art, MONA, now recognized as one of the pre-eminent art institutions in the southern hemisphere. Miles of corten steel, cavernous galleries seemingly hewn into the side of a cliff and amazing art of course. Couple this with a fantastic restaurant, café and winebar and the rest of Hobart’s food, art and markets and you have a very good reason to visit Tasmania. Join Sue Gardiner as she spends time at MONA, around Hobart and a day in Melbourne on the way through.

We take a morning flight to Melbourne, and on arrival transfer to the Heide Museum of Art. Enjoy a visit to the museum, and grab lunch in their amazing café. Head into town and after a quick visit to ACCA check into the Sofitel for the night.
Check out this morning and wander until 10am, when we head off to visit one or two of the many dealer galleries in Flinders Lane and find time for lunch. At 1pm we head to the airport and fly to Hobart for 3 nights.
This morning we take the MONA ferry up the beautiful Derwent River to MONA. Here we will be met and introduced to the Museum with time to discover until lunch at 1pm in the fabulous Source Restaurant. After another hour or two we head back into town on the ferry.
We spend time at the Tasmanian Museum and Gallery this morning as well as another of Hobart’s art venues before a return visit to MONA to make the most of our time. It really does need a second visit. Enjoy a group discussion over a glass of wine this afternoon to review MONA and it all you have encountered.
This morning we head to the airport and home to arrive in Auckland around 8pm.
