Nelson, Kaikoura and Christchurch Art Tour

Tuesday 17th to Saturday 20th February 2026

In February 2026 join us as we discover the Nelson region and spend a night in Kaikoura on our way to Christchurch.

Our guided tour will take in Nelson’s Suter Gallery, local art collections and art history.
We explore the surrounding areas including Moutere, Mapua and Ruby Bay. The Nelson region is rich in New Zealand’s Art History, artists, pottery, glass makers and jewellers

Suggested Itinerary

Day 1. Tuesday 17 February

Arrive in Nelson this morning, and after coffee, enjoy a visit to The Suter Art Gallery Te Aratoi o Whakatū. Nelsons preeminent culutral institution has a long and interesting history, an excellent collection and an always engaging exhibition schedule.

Bearby are several galleries including Quiet Dog and Parker Gallery as well as The Refinery Artspace.
Enjoy a welcome cocktail and dinner this evening.

Day 2. Wednesday 18 February

We are heading out to Mapua for coffee and Ruby Bay today to spend time in the home and studio of artist Lisa Chandler.
After lunch meet a the locals in Upper Moutere, and stop on our way back into town at Hoglund Art Glass.

Day 3. Thursday 19 February

Head out to Tapawera this morning to the Hidden Sculpture Garden and gallery of David Carson, and spend the last afternoon in Nelson at the studio of a local artist and finished the tour meeting a local Jeweller.

Day 4. Friday 20 February

We farewell Nelson and embark on a journey cross country to the Pacific Ocean and travel down the extraordinary coastline to Kaikoura. Spend the night in Kaikoura and enjoy a meal together.

Day 5. Saturday 21 February

We head toward Christchurch today with a stop at Black Estate Winery for lunch along the way, arriving late afternoon in Christchurch.

It is possible to fly home this evening, but we recommend a night to relax and spend a little time visiting the Christchurch Art Gallery and The Arts Centre before heading to the airport and home.
